One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child.
- MARIA MONTESSORI

Our Programs

A child goes through tremendous, unfathomable transformation physically, psychologically and spiritually from birth through age 12. These are considered the formative years of the child. Each child, we believe, is born with the wisdom of a thousand generations that have come before him. And yet, he is completely dependent on the parent in his early years. With time, as Dr. Maria Montessori best puts it, the child begins to reveal himself.

This begins with making sense of the immediate environment around him, progressing through the developmental stages by hypothesizing and experimenting, negotiating each situation, establishing
and pushing boundaries a little by little, and eventually, discovering himself. This, is a miracle of nature, happening all around us, all the time. A child grows regardless, but the right love, care and nurturing can make growing up a most exhilarating experience.

Our Programs are setup in adherence with the philosophy of Dr. Montessori to provide a child with the opportunity to experience growing up in a nurturing environment. The needs of a child - both physical and psychological, change with his age. These are referred to as The Four Planes of Child Development. Thus the environment, and his experiences within it must change too. We currently offer three programs for age groups 2.5 through 12.
Picture

PRIMARY
age 2.5 - 6

This is perhaps the most important time of a child's development, and probably the time where most parents pay the least attention to his learning. A child of this age group has an absorbent mind and has "sensitive periods" where specific learning  such as development of motor skills, language, etc. happen. This is done through use of material developed specifically for this purpose by Dr. Montessori.

LOWER ELEMENTARY
age 6 - 9

The child goes through a tremendous "metamorphosis" in physical, psychological and emotional aspects. There is a thirst for knowledge and ability of the child to think abstractly. He is able to transform his thoughts from just the immediate environment to being able to travel in time and space, separating from adult for extended period, experience the need to do great work, among others. They look up to the adults in the group, in family, and develop the ability to work in groups.

UPPER ELEMENTARY
age 9 - 12

The needs and characteristics of the lower elementary period intensify and the child seeks more challenging tasks, is able to reflect, critique and implement feedback of work product. The tendency to work in groups and include children paves way for emotional development, empathy and refines the ability to explain concepts. The child may seek role models outside of immediate community and in the outer world. The material offered at this time is focused on guiding the child's thoughts deeper into the topic.

So much to do beyond the walls and books

Dr. Montessori believed that for a child in the second plane of development (ages 6 thru 12), the school environment within the walls is not adequate. While a Montessori classroom is captivating and highly interesting, these children have a need to connect with the community and MUST be taken into the real world to experience what is out there. Keeping with the spirit of Montessori philosophy, and our vision, Cremon strives towards overall development of the child. In addition to academics, we regularly engage in activities such as physical training, carpentry, sustainability (bio-enzyme preparation, composting, organic farming, etc.), arts and crafts. In addition to these activities children are encouraged to come up with ideas to visit communities and places of employ in the real world. This is referred to as Going-Out. This program was developed to be an integral part of Montessori education.

A true going out trip is one that is thought of, planned, organized, executed, and followed up by the child. With the older children (ages 9-12) it is an expression of independence and responsibility. Usually, an idea is planted while the child is doing research. Often it is expressed by "Wow! I wish I could do that!"

Below are some images showing our going out trips in the past. We also conduct an extended going out trip (3 to 4 days) annually. All Elementary children go on these trips accompanied by adults to guide and ensure safety for the children. Our children have grown more confident in themselves as they take on these adventures without parents, some for the very first time. It is all they talk about before and immediately after the trip. These form a lasting impression on the minds of children, after all, that is what growing up is all about - to experience life in the real world.
